Safety Training Classes

National PEO is pleased to announce that it now offers OSHA Outreach training classes. The classes can be conducted at your location or our training office in Scottsdale, Arizona. OSHA General Industry - 10 and 30 Hour Courses

Outreach 10 and 30 hour courses are for both the employee and supervisor, manager, director level personnel. OSHA’s General Industry training classes cover all businesses except for maritime and construction. The 10 hour course is geared for the hourly employee covering the mandatory topics required by OSHA. The 30 hour course is geared to the supervisor, manager and directors in a company who are responsible for employee safety and health. At the completion of the courses and passing a written test the students will be issued the OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 hour general industry course cards.

 

OSHA Construction Industry - 10 and 30 Hour Courses

Outreach 10 and 30 hour courses are for both the employee and supervisor, manager, director level personnel. OSHA’s Construction Industry training classes cover all construction except for maritime and general industry. The 10 hour course is geared for the hourly employee covering the mandatory topics required by OSHA. The 30 hour course is geared to the supervisor, manager and directors in a company who are responsible for employee safety and health. At the completion of the course and passing a written test the students will be issued the OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 hour construction course cards.

 

Hearing Conservation

The training class is about 30 minutes to duration. It is primarily for companies that have work areas where noise is an issue (over 85 decibels) which can lead to accelerated hearing loss. For businesses with this type of environment, even if it is only one work area, the OSHA CFR 1910.95 standard is very specific on a company hearing conservation program. The training includes: types of hearing protection, when and how it is used and the requirements for the annual audiometric testing which must be given to all affected employees.

 

If available at the time of the training class, a training video from OSHA will also be utilized. A short written quiz is also given to the students (optional) for their personnel records.

 

Hazard Communication

This is mandatory safety training under OSHA CFR 1910.1200 for all employees if an employer has hazardous material on the premises. HazCom training covers the employers hazardous communication program dealing with hazardous chemical, hazardous materials, labeling, storage, containment, spill control and proper disposal of hazardous material in compliance with both OSHA and EPA (regulations overlap).

 

The training class is approximately 45 minutes and will also have a quiz distributed for the employees personnel file. This training class is mandatory every year on the anniversary the previous class.

 

Forklift Training and Certification

This safety training is mandatory for employees under OSHA standard CFR 1910.178 for employees who are required to operate company owned and leased forklifts as part of their job. The class covers the OSHA standards for forklift operation and safety.

 

The training class consists of a power point presentation (by OSHA) discussion, OSHA training videos and a demonstration on how to conduct a safety inspection of a forklift. There is a three part quiz for all forklift employees to complete and a company designated driving test examiner to complete the certification process. The classroom instruction approximately 2 ½ hours. The forklift certification is valid for three years unless the employee is involved in an accident, near miss, etc.

 

Lockout/Tag Out

This safety training is mandatory under OSHA standard CFR 1910.147 for all employees involved in the isolation of energy that may result in injury or death of an employee. Even though this applies mostly to employees involved in the isolation of the energy, all other employees must take the training so they are familiar with the procedure in the event they see a piece of equipment that is not lock it out.

 

The instruction consists of a power point presentation, discussion and a training video from OSHA. The time to conduct the classroom instruction approximately 30 minutes in duration. For employees who will be conducting the actual lockout/tag out, the hands on training will take approximately an additional 20 minutes.

 

Heat Stress (Hyperthermia)

This safety training is very important for employees who are exposed to the heat of summer not only in Arizona but anywhere they work. Heat related stress accounts for approximately 29 deaths annually in Arizona annually. The class covers how heat stress occurs, symptoms, basic first aid and how to prevent heat stress.

 

The classroom instruction utilizes a power point presentation, training video from OSHA (which was filmed in Tucson) and a quiz for the employees training records. The class runs approximately 30 minutes and is an excellent class for all employees to attend.

 

Cold Illness (Hypothermia)

This safety training is very important for employees who are exposed to the cool and cold weather of winter not only in Arizona but anywhere they work. The class covers how cold related stress occurs, symptoms, basic first aid and how to prevent cold related stress.

 

The classroom instruction utilizes a power point presentation, training video from OSHA and a quiz for the employees training records. The class is 30 minutes and is an excellent class for all employees to attend.

 

Confined Space Entry

This is mandatory training under OSHA standard CFR 1910.146 for employees who have to enter confined spaces where there is a potential for hazardous atmosphere, moving parts, engulfment, etc. The training will cover confined space permit required and confined space no permit required, the required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), atmospheric testing, respirator requirements, permits, forms, etc. Confined space permit required training includes additional training, respirator training and fit testing (separate training class) in order to protect employees and be in compliance.

 

The classroom instruction is comprised of a power point presentation, OSHA training video and hands on training. The class is approximately one to one and a half hours in duration.

 

Respirator Training

This training is mandatory under OSHA standard CFR1910.134 for employees who wear dust masks with a valve, full and half face respirators, SCBA’s, etc. This covers the basics including the wearing of dust masks. Before employees can use the dust masks and respirators they must submit a respirator medical evaluation form to a medical doctor for evaluation. For employees who will be wearing respirators they must also have a smelling test prior to the final fit test of an appropriate respirator.

 

The training is comprised of an OSHA power point presentation, OSHA training video, hands on training and a quiz for the employee’s records. The smelling test and fit test are conducted after a medical doctor has approved the employee to wear a respirator. The classroom instruction is one and a half hours in duration. The fit testing takes approximately ten minutes per employee.

 

Back Safety

This safety training is for all employees in shops, field and office environment. Job related back injury is one of the most common and expensive injuries that occur in the work place. The training explains the workings of the human back and how to prevent injuries through proper lifting techniques and the use of mechanical lifting devices.

 

The training is comprised of a power point presentation, OSHA training video and quiz for the employee’s records. The class is 30 minutes in duration.

 

Blood Borne Pathogens

This is mandatory training for employees under the OSHA standard CFR 1910.1030 to inform employees how to protect themselves in the event of exposure to bodily fluids of another employee following an injury accident. The training covers how to protect yourself, reporting procedures and clean up procedures. Also, included in the training is what an employee must do if exposed.

 

The class runs is 30 minutes and is comprised of a power point presentation, OSHA training video and a quiz for the employee records.

 

Fire Safety and Prevention

This is mandatory training of several OSHA standards which include the following: fire prevention, emergency evacuation procedures, fire suppression systems, fire extinguisher usage, flammable material in the workplace, etc.

 

The training is comprised of a power point presentation, OSHA training video and a quiz for the employee’s file. The class runs 30 minutes. It is highly recommended having a live fire extinguisher training session for all employees, conduct by a licensed fire equipment company.

 

Electrical Safety

This is a general electrical safety training program under OSHA standards CFR 1910.331 thru .335. The information covered is safe work practices around electricity using hand tools, ladders, lighting, etc.

The class is comprised of a power point presentation, OSHA safety video and quiz for employees. The class is 30 minutes in duration.

 

Fall Protection

This is mandatory training under OSHA standard CFR 1910 Sub Part D, E, F and CFR 1926 for employees who work at a height of six feet or higher. The training covers walking and working surfaces, personal fall protection, emergency procedures, etc.

 

The class is comprised of a power point presentation, OSHA training video and a quiz for employee’s file. The class is one hour in duration.

 

Ladder Safety

This safety training class under OSHA standard CFR 1910.25 thru .27 is primarily for employees who use ladders on a regular basis or occasionally in the work place. All employees should attend this class since most employees also use ladders around the house.

 

The class is comprised of a power point presentation, OSHA safety video and quiz for employee’s file. The class runs approximately thirty minutes.

 

OSHA Record Keeping

This class is for the employee(s) who are responsible for maintaining the OSHA 300 log and related documentation which is required under OSHA standard CFR 1904. The OSHA 300 report is required of all employers for tracking job related injuries and illnesses.

 

The class comprises a power point presentation, and software demo of how the data is collected for reporting. The class runs approximately one to one and a half hours.

 

Scaffold Training

This is mandatory training under OSHA standard CFR 1910.28 for all employees who erect and work on scaffolding.

 

The class is comprised of an OSHA power point presentation and OSHA safety training video. The training class is one hour in length.

 

Eye Safety and Face Protection

The training is to provide the employees and employer with the information they need to protect their eyesight. Protection of the eyes is very important and covered under OSHA standard CFR 1910.133 and 1910.252.

 

The class covers how the eye works, types of protection available and where the protection should be worn. The class is 30 minutes in duration.

 

Slip, Trip and Fall Protection

One of the most common and easily preventable injuries in the workplace is slip, trip and fall injuries which can result in expensive medical bills and lost time for the employee. This class is for all employees and covers the mechanics of a fall, recognition of a hazard and how to prevent the fall.

The class is a power point presentation, OSHA video and runs 30 minutes in duration.

 

Basic First Aid

Under the OSHA standard 1910.151 the employer should have an employee or several employees depending on the size of the organization trained in first aid and have an adequate first aid kit(s) on site. The first aid training includes site specific first aid concerns plus normal first aid concerns.

 

On site basic first aid training class is three to four hours in length and is comprised of power point presentations, training video and hands on demo. The training will also cover Blood borne Pathogens in greater detail then the normal OSHA requirement. The training is conducted in accordance with ASHI (American Safety and Health Institute) standards. NOTE: Employees who volunteer or are interested in the first aid training will be interviewed first to make sure they really understand what is involved in administering first aid in an industrial setting. Cost is $30 per person which include student books.

 

CPR/AED Training

In the OSHA brochure 3317-06N on the fundamentals of first aid in the workplace CPR/AED are also covered. With the advent of technology AED's (Automatic External Defibrillator) are safer, easier to use and are now affordable to all businesses. It is estimated that of all sudden coronary arrest in the workplace approximately 95% are fatal due to the lack of personnel trained in CPR and the use of AED's.

 

On site training is available for employees who are interested in becoming certified in CPR and the use of an AED. The course is comprised of power point, video, hands on training and hands on evaluation of CPR and the use of an AED. The class is four and half hours long due to the nature of the material and information. The training is conducted in accordance with ASHI (American Safety and Health Institute), the Red Cross and American Heart Association standards. Blood borne Pathogens will be covered in greater detail than the OSHA requirements. NOTE: Employees who volunteer or are interested in the CPR/AED training will be interviewed first to make sure they really understand what is involved in administering CPR and using an AED in an industrial setting. Cost is $65/person which includes student book. Allow approximately five hours depending on size of class.

 

Excavation Safety

Under the OSHA standard CFR 1926 Subpart P, all employees must be trained in hazard recognition and the proper way of working in and around construction excavations sites. The standard covers general requirements, soil classification, sloping and benching, timber shoring for trenches, aluminum hydraulic shoring, alternatives to timber shoring, selection of PPE.

 

Due to the amount of material that is covered this training class runs approximately one hour. A quiz will be given at the end of the training class.

 

Specialized safety training classes can be developed for the client with specific training requirements.
